Applying text to ceramics

Sometimes, you simply want text on your work, whether you are linguistic or not, or a fan of words or not. Read this blog post to learn more about applying text to ceramics.

A bowl with the name of the intended recipient, letters for plant labels to name your herbs, or an original saying on a plate. The possibilities are endless!

You can choose to use letter stamps which you can use, for example, with oxides coloring. You can write on your work with a ceramic pencil. You can paint letters on your work with glazes. You can create a stencil with paper and paint over it with oxides or with glazes, leaving letters in the recesses.

Or you can use the sgrafitto technique to carve letters into your work. You can also mix ceramic pigment with water to create ink for a drawing pen…. As you can see, the possibilities are endless!
