Stamping

Many ceramicists use a stamp to mark their work.

They either make one themselves or have one made with their name or logo incorporated into it, so that ceramics enthusiasts or buyers can recognize the artist’s work. It’s a great technique, but the stamp can also be used very effectively in addition to signing your work.

ou can use them to create beautiful geometric patterns or spontaneous relief designs. Stamps can be made from various materials, such as rubber, wood or metal, but perhaps the easiest option is a stamp made from clay.

If you sculpt your own design out of clay, you can bisque-fire it and then use it to press into wet clay. Bear in mind, however, that the image will appear in reverse, particularly if you plan to include text in your design.
