Crystal glaze

Crystal glaze
Natural crystals on clay, created using the crystal glaze decoration technique. Experience the magical interplay of science and nature as the glaze transforms during firing to form beautiful, living crystal patterns, making each piece a unique work of art.

Crystal glazes are a specific type of glaze in which crystals grow spontaneously during firing. They contain zinc and other metals which crystallise into flower- or star-like patterns under the right conditions in the kiln.

The process is technically challenging: the kiln is first fired to a high temperature, then slowly cooled at a precise rate to allow the crystals to grow. No two pieces are the same; each crystal forms in its own unique way. The result? A living surface full of depth, lustre and texture.
