Filigree

The term filigree is primarily associated with jewelry and other fine metalwork.

Forever learning.

It refers to a decorative technique in which very fine metal wires or beads are used to form intricate, delicate patterns. But the term filigree is also used in the world of ceramics. There, it refers to the creation of similar, delicate patterns by making perforations in the clay.

This must be done at the right time and with great care, otherwise the walls of your piece could collapse. You also run the risk of different parts of your workpiece drying unevenly due to these perforations.

Therefore, many ceramists choose to wrap all parts of the piece they are not currently working on in plastic. So, a labour-intensive technique, but beautiful results!
