Nice to meet you!
I’m Nele, a maker, a learner, and an eternal student.
My fascination with ceramics began as it does for so many: with a sense of wonder, countless questions, and a strong desire to keep learning.
In 2020, I started Cursist as a personal experiment, a place to document my own learning process and gather the knowledge I couldn’t easily find elsewhere. What began as a side project quickly grew into a fully fledged platform for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of ceramics.
Today, Cursist is a carefully curated knowledge platform, shaped by experts, experienced tutors and makers who truly master their craft. People who don’t just know how to do something, but why.
My role? I bring content, makers and form together. I focus on clarity, structure and quality, so you can learn in a way that genuinely makes sense. The combination of image, sound, editing, language and ceramics forms the backbone of everything you’ll find on Cursist.
I’m still learning every day. Experimenting, failing, trying again… And I’d love to take you along for the journey.
Will you learn with us?
Meet our teachers
José Mariscal
José Mariscal is a masterful ceramicist from Catalonia, Spain, who has been familiar with the potter’s wheel since childhood. He started working in his father’s pottery studio at the age of eight, where his passion for ceramics flourished.
He now creates unique stoneware and porcelain objects, often finished with delicate crystal glazes that give his work an elegant and almost poetic appearance.
His ceramics are exhibited and appreciated internationally. Alongside his own artistic practice, he shares his knowledge and craftsmanship through workshops and masterclasses around the world. He is recognised for the elegance of his forms and his outstanding technical control.
Inge Burgerhoudt
Inge of Kleur Keramiek first started working with ceramics in 2013. Prior to this, she worked as a fashion stylist for many years, having studied Fashion & Design at the Academy of Arts. Unsurprisingly, in addition to throwing, she soon started decorating and colouring her work. She found the creative possibilities she was looking for in engobes, with their endless techniques and colours. This passion continually presents new challenges in refining and combining techniques.
In her home studio, she creates stoneware and porcelain ceramics, which are often decorated using the sgraffito technique and sometimes combined with others. She also runs workshops on throwing and decorating and loves inspiring and helping other ceramicists to develop their skills.
Katrin Dekoninck
Katrin is a multimedia artist and expert in creating monumental sculptures in stoneware clay, fired in the ceramic kiln. Her work deals with the existence of man and expresses itself in sculptures of subdued, wounded bodies of men and women. In the art world, her sculptures are more than appreciated.
As well as her own artistic work, Katrin regularly takes on design projects for companies or architects. She also runs classes and workshops on modelling and sculpting at her studio in Mol.
Sofie De Cleene
Sofie De Cleene studied animation and has been highly creative since childhood. Through her ceramics and drawings, she explores the beauty of imperfection. Her drawings emerge from stains, her vases from dents, and her faces from amorphous shapes.
In 2022, she won the pottery competition ‘De schaal van Pascale’ on Belgian commercial television. At her ceramics studio, Studio Baksteen, you can take classes on the potter’s wheel, handbuilding classes, and attend the open studio and custom workshops. ‘Clay makes me happy, especially when you’re there!’
Rudie Delanghe
Ceramics has been a constant presence in Rudie Delanghe. He is an experienced master ceramist who teaches the country’s best ceramists. He exhibits his work in his home country of Belgium and abroad, and he is best known for his large vases and raku pieces.
He is a seasoned teacher who has taught hundreds of people how to throw. He continues to share his expertise through workshops and masterclasses. Rudie lives and works in Fajac-en-Val in France.
Louise Daneels
Louise Daneels is a ceramicist and illustrator. She studied illustration at KASK and ceramics and glass art at LUCA School of Arts. According to her, illustration and ceramics are ‘a match made in heaven’. She creates her own cheerfully coloured, illustrative work, which she exhibits at home and abroad, and teaches handbuilding and throwing on the potter’s wheel.
Kathleen Bessemans
Kathleen Bessemans has worked full-time as a ceramicist and designer since 2012. She has years of experience in a variety of ceramic techniques and also teaches at her own studio, where she enjoys inspiring others to take up the craft of ceramics. Her work ranges from tableware and jewellery to interior objects, and is invariably a search for beauty.
Sofie Goethals
Sofie of SOGO ceramics creates sleek, modern, 100% handmade functional ware. She works with both private clients and businesses.
As well as throwing for clients, Sofie also enjoys passing on her knowledge at workshops. Due to her scientific background, she is fascinated by the world of glazes. She runs a variety of theoretical and practical glazing workshops in Belgium and overseas. She also regularly organises throwing courses on various themes for beginners and advanced ceramists alike.
Caroline Kesteleyn
Caroline, also known as Caro-K, draws inspiration from a passion for design, creating beauty through the use of light colours, natural materials, minimalism and functionality.
Caroline has been a full-time potter/ceramicist since 2016. She set up her own studio, Caro-K. She now continues to develop Atelier Aimée together with Sybille. Her passion is enthusiastically passing on her love of pottery to students.
Aster Caemaert
To Aster, ceramics represent so much more than just a finished product. It is an ongoing process of discovering and rediscovering the clay. She has been creating with enthusiasm and educating herself in all aspects of pottery, glazing and firing for more than 20 years. This wonderful craft became a way of life for her.
Sharing her passion with students and colleagues gives Aster strength. In recent years, the studio has grown alongside her enthusiasm and love for the craft.
Anima Roos
Anima Roos has been passionate about clay for decades. For 40 years she has had her own studio. She exhibits her work both at home and abroad. She has studied a wide variety of ceramic techniques over the years. As an experienced teacher, she loves passing on her knowledge to her students.
Veerle Van Overloop
Veerle Van Overloop studied Ceramics at the University of Art and Design in Antwerp (Sint-Lucas), and has completed a number of masterclasses. Veerle established her label Fou de Feu on the Belgian design map in 2009 with her pure passion and timeless collections.
Her main influences are architecture, photography, design and food culture. Her work combines a variety of materials in a simple, pure way.
Fernand Everaert

He runs workshops and courses at his Lochristi studio, where he specialises in clay and ceramics. “No matter how you look at it, the clay makes you feel alive.”
