Solvent

A liquid substance capable of dissolving or diluting other materials. In ceramics, a solvent is sometimes used to thin or mix glaze materials, for example to bring glaze powders to the right consistency before application. The solvent evaporates during firing, leaving the glaze on the surface of the piece.
