Combustion

The process by which organic material, such as plant matter or other organic residues in the clay, is removed by exposure to heat in a kiln. This happens during the early stage of firing, such as the bisque firing. During combustion, organic particles break down and burn away, purifying the clay and preparing it for further processing. This is an essential part of the firing process, ensuring the finished piece is durable and free of unwanted residue.
