Chamois

Chamois refers to the soft, supple leather made from the hide of a chamois (a species of mountain goat). The leather has a velvety texture and is known for its absorbent properties, allowing it to soak up moisture well.

Potters often use a chamois to remove excess water from the surface of their work while throwing on the wheel. It’s also used to polish ceramic pieces for a smooth finish. Its absorbency makes it useful for controlling the consistency of the clay and achieving the desired textures and finishes.
