Alkaline

The property of a substance or environment that is basic, or not acidic, on the pH scale. In ceramics, an alkaline glaze is a glaze with a higher pH value. These glazes tend to produce bright, clear colours and often react differently with certain clay bodies than acidic glazes. Understanding alkalinity is important for interpreting glaze reactions and controlling chemical composition in ceramic processes.
