Sgraffito: how does it work?
Sgraffito is a decoration technique where you make intentional scratches in the top layer of your work, usually this is a layer of underglaze, clay slip or engobe. By doing that, the colour of the clay underneath becomes visible. The name is derived from the Italian word sgraffiare, which means “to scratch”.
